Dear colleagues,
we cordially invite you to the next lecture in the series StředověC JinaX, this time Michaela Kovářová will speak.
Come on March 20 at 19:00 to hear her reflect on the ongoing dispute over the historical ownership of the church in the Armenian village of Odzun.
In the heart of the village of Odzun, located in the northeast of present-day Armenia, we find a church surrounded by an outdoor stone gallery and decorated with various reliefs. In addition, an atypical monument stands next to the church itself. It includes, among other things, two stelae in which ornaments, figures, and scenes are carved. The never-ending dispute between the various states of the Caucasus over which monument historically belongs to which country can be observed, in part, in the case of Odzun. But how can the monuments in Odzun show us that this problem was not clear-cut even in the past? And can the reliefs on the church and the monument help us to specify their dating, which is not yet clearly determined?
The lecture is part of the Contexts of Humanity project of energeia o.p.s.
We are looking forward to the meeting
