About Our Research
High quality research is central to our identity as a department, from research-based teaching and supervision of students, to the organisation of conferences, curating of exhibitions, and production of books and articles. Our research is internationally recognised, at all levels, from PhD students, to early career researchers and senior scholars. We are a diverse community of researchers who explore a range of topics using many different methods and approaches.
Our research is organised into three main research centres:
We also work closely with museums and galleries in central Europe; this has included collaboration on projects and exhibitions with, for example, the National Gallery, Prague; the Belvedere Gallery, Vienna; the Gallery of Western Bohemia, Plzeň and the Moravian Gallery.
With regular workshops and conferences, our research culture offers a stimulating and supportive environment in which PhD students can flourish. We encourage applicants across all the range of our specialist interests (including joint supervisions with colleagues from other disciplines). We run a regular programme of seminars and public lectures.
Scholarly Journals
We publish three scholarly journals covering art from the Early Middle Ages up to the present day.
