(Extended deadline: April 22) Call for Papers: Who Owns Heritage? Local Communities and the Fight for Historical Monuments in the 19th and 20th Centuries. Masaryk University Brno, Czechia, 6 November
Dear friends,
we would like to invite you to the next lecture in the series Středověk Jinax. You can look forward to an evening entitled On a journey into the unknown: Na pouti do neznáma: Orkneje, Katedrála sv. Magnuse a svět nordických ság by Filip Šimek.
We will meet again on Thursday, 19 October at 7 pm at the Hans Belting Library. We will also broadcast the lecture live online on our YouTube channel.
The lecture will be held in CZECH language.
Annotation:
When it comes to medieval pilgrimage, not everyone immediately thinks to associate this phenomenon with Scandinavia. Yet the region has contributed significantly to the building of European Christian culture, including through pilgrimage. It has continually proved to the rest of the continent that it truly belongs in the Christian world. This lecture will focus specifically on the archipelago symbolically capping the northern part of Scotland - Orkney in the 12th century and the so-called 'Orkney Renaissance'.
