Bachelor's Student

For single-subject students, the structure of the Bachelor programme is that, following a propaedeutic year (composed of 6 mandatory courses; Periods of Art History I–IV and Christian and Profane Iconography, as well as 2 seminars; ABC of Art History I–II; in this frame, they should also enroll in the First Year Thesis), they enroll in 6 mandatory blocks composed by:

  • blocks I–III → courses and seminars in Medieval, Early Modern, and Modern Art History
  • block IV → History of Architecture, Historiography of Art History, and a seminar Art Historian in Archive
  • block V → Languages (introductions to French, German, and Italian for 1 semester; introduction to Latin for 2 semesters)
  • block VI → Communication (each student should enroll in 1 course of Rhetoric, 1 course of Science Communication, 1 course of Curatorship in Practice – these can be selected in Spring or Fall semester freely).

In addition, they should, in the last semester, enroll 2 courses relative to the writing of the Bc. diploma thesis, namely the Thesis seminar and Bachelor thesis.


For students with Art History as Major, following a propaedeutic year (composed of 6 mandatory courses; Periods of Art History I–IV and Christian and Profane Iconography, as well as 2 seminars; ABC of Art History I–II; in this frame, they should also enroll in the First Year Thesis), they enroll in 4 mandatory blocks composed by:

  • blocks I–III → courses and seminars in Medieval, Early Modern, and Modern Art History
  • block IV → History of Architecture, Historiography of Art History, and a seminar Art Historian in Archive.

In addition, they should, in the last semester, enroll 2 courses relative to the writing of the Bc. diploma thesis, namely the Thesis seminar and Bachelor thesis.


For students with Art History as Minor, they should enroll the following courses: Periods of Art History I–IV and Christian and Profane Iconography, as well as 2 seminars; ABC of Art History I–II; in this frame, they should also enroll in the First Year Thesis.
