The Department is a dynamic and internationally recognised centre for study and research into the history and theory of art, architecture and visual culture. We were founded in 1927 and have been growing ever since. We have been welcoming students for nearly one hundred years, and offer a rich programme of education at all levels, from Bachelor to PhD, and we also teach on the University of the Third Age.  

Our staff teach and research topics covering the period from classical antiquity to the present. We also take advantage of the rich artistic and architectural heritage of our home city, Brno, and its excellent galleries and museums, from the historic and modern collections of the Moravian Gallery to the exciting programme of contemporary art exhibitions staged by venues such as the House of Art (Dům Umění) and the Fait Gallery.
